30 days of TV meme: Day 06 and Day 07

Day 06 - Favourite episode of your favourite TV show

Since the question is favourite rather than best, I'm going to go with "Bastille Day." This episode is the first time Lee really takes a stand based on principle, knowing that there might be a personal cost, and that willingness to do the right thing is the main reason I love the character, so this episode is one I tend to rewatch.

Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favourite TV show

It's a toss-up between "Black Market" and the series finale. I think I'm going to go with "Black Market." This is the infamous episode that features not one, but two characters who come out of nowhere and are never mentioned again despite the episode's claim that they're incredibly important to one of the main characters. I think they could have gotten away with introducing one character this way, but two doesn't work. There should have been foreshadowing and there should have been follow-through and the absence of both is lousy writing.

I'm probably never going to watch BSG, but it's interesting to read your posts about it :)

I'm glad you're finding it interesting, 'cause it seems like these questions all kind of highlight the same show. Well, tomorrow I'll come up with something different.

I'm curious--why do you not think you'll watch BSG? (Don't worry, I have no plans to argue or proselytize. I'm really just curious.)

Heh. I don't mind a bit of proselytising--it's not a show anyone has ever tried really hard to convince me to watch before. Mostly, from everything I've heard, I suspect it'll be too dark and grim for me. Like, DS9 gets dark at times, but not for long stretches. Angel S4 was dark, but not really grim. Buffy Season 6 was probably the worst in terms of unrelenting joylessness. When I watch a TV show, I need heroes and I need friendships and I need (most) characters to eventually be okay.

It's part of the reason I keep putting of watching my Farscape DVDs, to be honest, on top of my reluctance to start a heavily arced show without knowing I can make it all the way through. Though at least with Farscape I'm spoiled enough to know John and Aeryn get some kind of happily ever after.

It is pretty dark and grim. And even the most heroic characters sometimes make morally questionable decisions. For me, the plot twists and the intensity and the attempts to be heroic were worth it, but I can definitely understand not watching it because of the lack of lighthearted moments.
