Dear Tag Exchange Author

Dear Tag Exchange Author,

Thank you for writing for me! I hope there's something in this letter that helps you, but if not, please know that I really do consider optional details to be optional. Use 'em if they're helpful, and please ignore them if they're not. Write the story you want to write, whatever that is. (Although if you can try to avoid my "do not wants," I'd appreciate that.) Also, I'm a fan of both traditional uses of these prompts, and creative reinterpretations, so please go with whatever works for you. I'm looking forward to whatever you do!

I've sometimes mentioned characters below who weren't nominated. Please don't feel compelled to write anyone you're not comfortable writing! I'm trying to expand the available options, not push you into writing something you didn't sign up for.

Some general info, in case the tropes alone aren't enough of an inspiration:

Things I usually like: First times of all kinds, competence, characters being awesome, friendship, understated romance, stories that touch on the characters' pasts or families, stories that pick up on dropped plot threads from the show, action, plot, introspection, character studies, slice of life, grief/bereavement, and the (properly earned) revelation of secrets. Happy fic is good, and so is mild to moderate angst with happy or bittersweet endings. I'm okay with character death. Dubcon is okay if it leads to a happy ending. (They don't have to end up together, but I'd rather no one was horribly scarred by it.) NC-17 is fine, but definitely not required. As you can probably tell from the tropes I requested, I'm not really looking for a PWP story.

Things I mostly prefer not to read: Major power imbalances in romantic relationships (including Dom/sub and A/B/O), BDSM, most kink, betrayal, adultery, non-con, jealousy and possessiveness treated positively, graphic torture, long and detailed descriptions of recoveries from traumatic events, and permanent mental or physical injuries to major characters that don't occur in canon.

Please don't read anything into the space given to each fandom. That has more to do with how late it was when I wrote that section than my feelings about the fandom. I love all of these shows!

I basically love all of the characters on this show, so use whichever ones make sense for your story. (If I had to choose a favourite, it would be Aidan, but I really do love all of them and would welcome fic about anyone.) I also enjoy all of the canon ships, and would be happy to see any of them make an appearance. I'm not particularly partial to any non-canon ships, and I'd rather avoid those if at all possible, but OC relationships are fine if they're needed for the plot.

I've got quite a mix of tropes here. If you're going with the Spies & Secret Agents AU, I think it would be fun to keep the supernatural elements intact, but as spies. Or if you want to write it less AU and more historical--make Aidan a spy during WWII or something--I'd be fine with that to.

I'm generally a fan of backstory and filling in gaps. There are lots of gaps you can fill in from Aidan's past, of course, and I'd be delighted to read about any period in his life. I'd also be interested in some of the others...Nora, Kat, Josh, Henry, Bishop, Suren, Sally, Bishop. Whoever you're inspired to write. What's a significant moment from their life? What's been hinted at but not shown? How did they get to where they are?

Bodyswap seems like it could be all sorts of fun with werewolves and/or vampires. Or just a male/female swap. I kind of see Josh being freaked out, Nora alternating between being freaked out and fascinated, and Aidan kind of interested/blasé about it all. And Kat, well, Kat's probably going to be more concerned about suddenly being a vampire or werewolf. (Or alternately, they'll be rushing to get her swapped back before the full moon hits.)

If you want to do a crossover, I have a list of other shows I watch in my profile. I'm not going to state preferences here, 'cause it really depends on what else you know. (Well, okay, one thought. If you happen to have seen it and you're feeling inspired, I'd love a crossover between Being Human and Sleepy Hollow, because, well, two characters from the American Revolution who are now living in the present. I'd enjoy seeing them bond. Gen. Slash. Whatever. As long as there's no cheating on other partners.)

I have a major weakness for detective noir--it's pretty much my bulletproof AU. I have no particular preference as to who gets to play which role, and I don't necessarily need a full-on mystery plot. Detective-partners on their off-time would work, or world-weary cops on the job. Whatever you want to write. I'm happy to either keep the supernatural element, or make them all human. Whatever works best for your story.

I enjoy Epistolary fic. Letters, email, newspaper clippings. Whatever. Maybe Aidan kept a journal that he now hands over to Kat? Maybe he wrote a lot of letters to his wife? Maybe Josh writes anniversary letters to Nora every year? Maybe Sally's bored and starts reading some old letters to keep herself entertained? Maybe the SCH nurses have an email list?

In Vino Veritas is all about the revelation of secrets for me. There are plenty to go around on this show, from the supernatural identities to past relationships to current fears or affections.

So basically, I find the idea of Joan and Sherlock stuck together in some fashion entertaining. Although you don't have to write humour! If you have another way to approach one of these tropes, go for it. Action, angst...whatever. And if you'd like to write Sherlock or Joan stuck with Alfredo or Gregson or Bell, that would be cool too. (Bell and Sherlock might be especially amusing, just because of how much they annoy each other. But go with what works for you.) I don't really have anything more specific in mind than that.

I don't really have any ships in this fandom and would be perfectly happy with gen, but if you want the characters to end up together, go ahead.

For a completely different option, I've included the Space AU trope. I don't have any particular thoughts on this, except that I firmly believe everything is better with spaceships. Write a detective story in space, or give them all completely different roles...whatever you like.

The Mentalist

Any of the characters, nominated or not, would work for me. Jane is my favourite, but I really do love everyone. Or at least all of the good guys. I don't have any OTPs in this fandom, but I'll read any canon ship, plus Jane/Lisbon, Jane/Cho, Jane/Mashburn, and Lisbon/Mashburn. I also like the gen versions of all those pairings, plus Lisbon & Hightower, Lisbon & Van Pelt, Cho & Rigsby, and Jane & LaRoche. I'd rather avoid any sort of pairing involving Red John, and would be happy to see him appear only peripherally or not at all.

Space AU, because again, everything's better with spaceships. I still don't have any specific ideas, but I suppose the most obvious options are making the team space cops or the crew of spaceship or space station. But if you have another idea, run with it!

Spy AU because, well, Jane would make a great spymaster. Actually, lots of them would make great spies. Stiles or LaRoche could be fun in here. Or Jane trying on his carny past as a way of extending his network. Or anyone on the team undercover and in danger, carrying out their mission.

Detective Noir. As I said earlier, this is a favourite AU for me. Again, I have no real preference as to who gets put in what role, and I don't need a full mystery plot (although you're certainly welcome to write one). Some sort of atmospheric slice-of-life thing would work too.

Drunk Sex. I don't really have a preference as to which couple this is used for this trope. Any canon pairing or any of the pairings I listed would be fine. Maybe as a way of getting people together, maybe as a form of comfort. Bittersweet endings are fine, but ideally without too many regrets. Happy endings are always welcome too.

Psychic bond and road trip are both tropes I enjoy, but I don't have any specific thoughts. Hopefully the tropes themselves will be enough to inspire you.

Stargate SG-1

This is one of the fandoms where I ship a variety of characters. Favourite pairings include Sam/Cam, Cam/Carolyn, Sam/Jack, Sam/Carolyn, and Daniel/Vala. I'm also very fond of Cam/John, if you happen to feel like writing a crossover with SGA. I love all of the characters, though, so feel free to use them as you wish.

Detective Noir makes another appearance. Same rules as before: mix 'em up however you like, and don't feel like you have to come up with an actual mystery. Though, of course, you can if you like. It also doesn't have to be set on Earth, if you want to get creative.

Fake/Pretend Relationship. I think this is kind of a classic in Stargate fandom, but there's always room for another, right? Aliens force them to pretend or they're undercover on Earth for some secret military mission, and maybe the fake relationship leads to something? Or maybe it just leads to friendly bickering and a whole lot of competent action.

Friends to Lovers. I like this particular prompt for Stargate because the main characters are friends, and so there's room to make the transition. I'm especially fond of this one for Sam/Cam, but it could work for any of those pairings.

In Vino Veritas. I love it when secrets come out. A little moping, a little melancholy, or maybe pure joy. Secret affections, coming out, past mistakes or regrets...lots of possibilities. The same ideas apply to Telepathy, although you could certainly take that in other directions as well.

Road Trips. SG-1--any version of SG-1--on a road trip would be awesome. Or some smaller subset of SG-1. Or of the cast in general. Send them wherever you like!
