Tis the season for seasonal exchanges

The tag set for yuletide_admin has been revealed, and the countdown has begun for sign-ups, which are slated to open on Friday.

For those who missed nominations, or who are looking for a less rare, non-Yuletide-eligible fandom, nominations are now open at mistletoe_exchange, a new all-fandom ship exchange.

I'm torn on which I'd rather do, if any. My track record on actually finishing writing in a timely fashion hasn't been great lately and I hate spending the days before Christmas either scrambling to write or feeling guilty because I'm not writing. On the other hand, I love actually finishing things and receiving fic and being part of the excitement. I've nominated for both, so I might wait for the letter and see if I find any of the requests inspiring.

And of course, just as Lucifer gets interesting again after a bit of hit-and-miss season, it gets cancelled. So very sad.

I'm just hoping they didn't decide to end the season (and now series) on a cliffhanger.

ETA: And here's an article about the upcoming cliffhanger. Well, maybe someone will write a proper fic ending.

Countdown to conversion day

I went to see Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets today. ( Cut for negativity more than spoilers. )

For the Forever Knight fans: A friend of mine recently applied for Canadian citizenship, and a few weeks later received an email informing him that the processing of his application has now begun and also providing him with a link to the website where he can download the citizenship test study guide in either print or audio format. Furthermore, the email continued, the audio version is narrated by a group of famous Canadians. My friend didn't recognize any of the names, but I recognized a couple, including one that I thought might be of mild interest to handful of you: Geraint Wyn Davies. If any of you would like to listen to Nick Knight discuss the regions of Canada, you can do so here.

I was reading some advice today on how to improve ease of writing. The first step the site recommended is to write first thing in the morning, before doing anything else, or at least before reading anything else. It apparently doesn't matter what you write as long as you write something; recounting the previous night's dreams or discussing in detail how much you hate the activity are both perfectly valid options. I think I might try it for a bit and see what happens, if I can just bring myself to wake up a little earlier.

I have another week of vacation coming up soon. I should start putting together a list of the things I'd like to accomplish. Bake, definitely; maybe visit the bank; maybe go to the beach. That's a start.

I find it hilarious that New York Fries--a fast food restaurant that literally sells nothing but fries (and hot dogs)--has a loyalty program. (Okay, they also sell a few poutine variants, but that's just French fries with toppings.) A loyalty program. Buy 10, get one free.

On the other hand, apparently members can get free fries tomorrow in honour of National Fry Day, so now I'm kind of thinking about joining.
