Dear Crossworks Author 2023
Dear Crosscrafter,
Thank you so much for writing for me! I'm so excited to see what you come up with.
I've included both some general likes and some specific prompts below. Feel free to take whatever inspires you and ignore the rest, or re-purpose prompts if that's what works for you. Or go in your own direction if you prefer.
I'm
skieswideopen on AO3 as well, and treats are enabled and welcome.
General Likes: I'm a huge fan of watching competent characters being competent. I love secrets coming out, by choice, chance, or necessity, and seeing the reactions to those secrets. I adore equal partnerships and mutual respect in romantic relationships. I like brief moments of emotional vulnerability from generally stoic or reserved characters, and I enjoy watching heroic characters being heroic: saving people, sacrificing themselves for others, etc. I also really like outsider POVs, seeing how other people perceive the characters or how they perceive other people.
DNWs:
* AUs that significantly alter the premise, setting, or character roles/backgrounds (e.g., coffee shop AUs, high school AUs, A/B/O, genderswap).
* Romantic or sexual relationships featuring a significant power imbalance.
* Infidelity that doesn't occur in canon.
* Significant permanent mental or physical injuries to requested characters that don't occur in canon, especially any sort of amputation. (Killing characters is fine unless otherwise noted.)
* PWP
Other Things: I'm very flexible on genre: plot-driven, character-driven, action, introspection, slice of life, gen, romance...it's all good. I'm fine with character death, including main characters, unless otherwise noted. Background non-con is fine if it's helpful for the story, but I'd rather it not be the primary focus. I dislike plots that revolve around misunderstandings that could be cleared up with a simple conversation, and competent characters being rendered temporarily incompetent for the purpose of driving the plot. For the requests that lend themselves to case fic, I'm perfectly fine with a or scenes from a case rather than a full case from start to finish.
Requests
Request 1: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Firefly, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek: Discovery
Request 2: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Firefly, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Stargate SG1
Request 3: Battle Creek, Being Human (US/Canada), Elementary, Forever, Intelligence (US), The Listener, The Mentalist, Stargate: SG1, Star Trek: The Next Generation
Request 4: Covert Affairs, Intelligence, James Bond, Person of Interest, Stargate: SG1
Request 5: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Intelligence, Madam Secretary
Request 1: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Firefly, Star Trek: Discovery, Stargate Atlantis
This request is all about the space shows. They're all set in different universes, and I'm happy to hand-wave how the characters meet. Maybe an accident with a wormhole/stargate/warp drive malfunction/space-time anomaly/experiment-gone-wrong leaves a ship stranded in the wrong universe. Maybe ships from two different realities get sucked into a third place by unknown forces and the crews have to work together to get home. Maybe one or two characters end up alone in the wrong universe and have to figure how what to do next, whether that's return home or build a new life.
Note: I limited my request to SGA because I didn't want to match on SG1/SGA, but I'm a fan of both, so feel free to sub one for the other or bring in characters from both. The same applies to the various live action Star Treks. Feel free to sub in a different nominated live action Star Trek if you prefer.
Prompts:
* The crew of Serenity encounter a space anomaly while fleeing a situation, and find themselves at Federation HQ with no idea of how to get home. (Mal negotiating with Michael or Saru for help? Kaylee hanging out with Tilly and Stamets, swapping stories and admiring Discovery's engine room? Inara and Zoƫ discussing their take on the Federation people they've met?)
* When a puddlejumper emerges in the middle of the Colonial fleet, members of the fleet realize that Earth may be more than a myth.
* Vance and Rillak meet with Roslin and Adama to discuss next steps after the Colonial fleet appears on the Federation's doorstep. Or maybe just a quiet conversation between two of them in between official meetings.
(Optional) Favourite relationships:
BSG: Laura & Lee, Laura/Bill, Helo/Athena, Kara/Sam
Firefly: Any canon
Star Trek: Discovery: Michael/Book, Saru/T'Rina, Hugh/Paul
Stargate: John/Cam, John/Elizabeth, Cam/Sam, Sam/Jack
Xover: Kara Thrace/Ronon Dex, Felix Gaeta/Ronon Dex, Lee Adama/John Sheppard, Kaylee Frye/Sylvia Tilly, Saru/Derrial Book
Note: I limited my request to SGA because I didn't want to match on SG1/SGA, but I'm a fan of both, so feel free to sub one for the other or bring in characters from both. The same applies to the various live action Star Treks. Feel free to sub in a different nominated Star Trek if you prefer. Also, feel free to re-purpose any prompts for different fandoms, if you have any idea of how to make that work.
Request 2: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Firefly, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Stargate SG1
Space shows redux! To repeat the above paragraph, these shows are all set in different universes, and I'm happy to hand-wave how the characters meet. Maybe just one or two people end up alone in the wrong universe and have to figure how what to do next, whether that's return home or build a new life.
Prompts:
* Upon jumping to an alternate universe, the first thing the crew of the Enterprise discovers is not Earth, but a world dominated by the Goa'uld/Ori/Wraith.
* Character X is sure that they could break the time loop if they could just get the first encounter with the other ship to run perfectly.
* Enterprise crew members find unexpected welcome when they're stranded on Galactica, and also some surprising cultural differences.
(Optional) Favourite relationships:
BSG: Laura & Lee, Laura/Bill, Helo/Athena, Kara/Sam
Firefly: Any canon
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Chris & Una, Spock/T'Pring
Stargate: John/Cam, John/Elizabeth, Cam/Sam, Sam/Jack
Note: I limited my request to SG1 because I didn't want to match on SG1/SGA, but I'm a fan of both, so feel free to sub one for the other or bring in characters from both. The same applies to the various live action Star Treks. Feel free to sub in a different nominated Star Trek if you prefer. Also, feel free to re-purpose any prompts for different fandoms, if you have any idea of how to make that work.
Request 3: Battle Creek, Being Human (US/Canada), Elementary, Forever, Intelligence (US), The Listener, The Mentalist, Star Trek: The Next Generation
This request is largely defined by shows that feature people with secrets to hide and shows that feature people who are good at ferreting out secrets. Sometimes they're the same people. I'd enjoy anything that throws characters from these shows together, particularly if it leads the secret-finder to look into the secret-keeper. Maybe a case they're working on together, or a random meeting, or an old connection that leads to a new meeting.
Star Trek is a bit of an odd man out here, but I do enjoy a good time travel crossover as well. Maybe a couple of Starfleet officers are hiding on past Earth, trying to avoid attracting attention while carrying out whatever their mission is, and then either get swept up into a (criminal?) investigation or find themselves intervening to help someone or perhaps unexpectedly receiving help themselves. Alternately, maybe someone from the present day somehow ends up in the future, amazed at what they find and worrying about how to get home (or how to build a new life). Or maybe Aidan Waite or Henry Morgan live long enough to see the rise of the Federation. I'd love to see what their lives might look like.
Where relevant, feel free to play with the timelines to get seasons to match up the way you need them to--I'm not picky about that, and you don't need to provide explanations unless you want to.
Prompts:
* Their teams swear that Sherlock and Jane are competing to see who can be the most insightful/irritating.
* Sherlock tries to figure out what's going on with Gabriel when Cyber Command agrees to help the FBI with a case.
* Jane has his own theories on why Milt is in Battle Creek.
* Joan and Milt are old friends.
* Henry Morgan or Aidan Waite witness a crime, and as part of the investigation, Gabriel Vaughn runs a standard background check.
* Jane doesn't believe in psychics, so he's determined to figure out how Toby Logan does what he does.
* Henry Morgan and Aidan Waite recognize each other from an encounter a century earlier
* Toby meets Aidan or Henry and doesn't quite believe what he reads in their minds
* Characters from any two shows team up to deal with an emergency/catastrophe: Preventing an apocalypse? Surviving in a post-apocalyptic world? Breaking a time loop?
(Optional) Favourite relationships:
Battle Creek: Russ & Milt, Russ/Holly
BHUS: Josh/Nora, Aidan/Kat
Elementary: Sherlock & Joan, Sherlock/Marcus, Sherlock & Gregson
Forever: Henry/Jo, Henry & Abraham
Intelligence (US): Gabriel & Riley, Gabriel/Riley, Gabriel & Lillian
The Listener: Any canon
The Mentalist: Jane/Lisbon, Jane/Cho, Rigsby/Van Pelt
TNG: Any canon
Note: Feel free to sub in a different nominated live action Star Trek if you prefer.
Request 4: Covert Affairs, Intelligence, James Bond (Craig movies), Person of Interest, Stargate: SG1
This set is all about secrets and spies! I'd enjoy anything that brings the different characters together, working together while perhaps hiding various secrets, or trying to figure out someone else's other secrets.
Where relevant, feel free to play with the timelines to get seasons to match up the way you need them to--I'm not picky about that, and you don't need to provide explanations unless you want to.
Prompts:
* Any of Annie Walker, Auggie Anderson, Eyal Lavin, Gabriel Vaughan, Riley Neal and/or James Bond are read into the Stargate program and asked to identify a mole from their country.
* Eyal introduces Annie to Bond when the three of them encounter each other in the field, leading to some subtle competition for Annie's attention.
* Annie and Auggie are assigned to work with Gabriel and Riley on a case.
* Old friends Joan Campbell and Lilian Strand have a drink and commiserate over the challenges of their jobs and agents who don't always do what they're told.
* Annie crosses paths with Reese and Shaw when the Machine sends them on an assignment that's also of interest to the CIA.
* The Machine sends Reese and Shaw on assignment that turns out to involve aliens and, oddly enough, the Air Force.
* Two characters meet while being held prisoner after trying to infiltrate the same group.
(Optional) Favourite relationships:
Covert Affairs: Annie/Eyal, Annie/Auggie, Joan/Arthur
Intelligence (US): Gabriel & Riley, Gabriel/Riley, Gabriel & Lillian
James Bond (Craig movies): Any canon
Person of Interest: John Reese/Zoe Morgan, Shaw/Root, Harold/Grace
Stargate: John/Cam, John/Elizabeth, Cam/Sam, Sam/Jack
Xover: James Bond/Annie Walker, Cameron Mitchell/Riley Neal
Note: I limited my request to SG1 because I didn't want to match on SG1/SGA, but I'm a fan of both, so feel free to sub one for the other or bring in characters from both.
Request 5: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Intelligence, Madam Secretary
For BSG and Madam Secretary or Intelligence: The Colonial fleet finds Earth! Or maybe just a couple of pilots end up on Earth. Either way, Secretary/President Elizabeth McCord has to figure out what to do with them, or maybe CyberCom is sent in to investigate.
Prompts:
* Secretary/resident Elizabeth McCord discusses the implications of the arrival with her husband.
* Elizabeth and Conrad discuss what they're going to do with the refugees--and the new technology.
* Elizabeth and Roslin meet.
* Roslin and Adama discuss their initial reception and their hopes for the future.
* Elizabeth's and Laura's staff coordinate upcoming events.
* A member of Elizabeth's staff gives a tour to a few Colonial representatives.
* Elizabeth and other Earth reps get a tour of Galactica.
* Lee Adama has experience explaining his father to presidents, which helps during an informal chat with Elizabeth McCord.
* Gabriel and Riley are assigned to provide security during the early meetings between the US president and the president of the colonies.
* Gabriel is sent along on a tour of Galactica with an eye to using the chip to scan their systems. Instead, he picks up some Cylons.
* Three months after the Colonial fleet appeared above Earth, Riley and Dee are bonding.
For Madam Secretary and Intelligence: I'd love to see Elizabeth learn about Clockwork.
Prompts:
* Gabriel and Riley accompany Elizabeth on an overseas trip, and something goes terribly wrong, leading to an accidental revelation of Gabriel's abilities.
* President Dalton tells Elizabeth about the whole thing and asks her opinion on whether the program should be expanded.
* Elizabeth gets a briefing on Clockwork after she becomes president and decides she wants to meet the man whom they've entrusted with so much power.
* Elizabeth talks the program over with Henry, or discusses hypotheticals with her staff, or debates its merits and dangers with Lillian, trying to decide what to do with it.
* Henry, as ethics advisor, talks to Gabriel (and maybe Lilian and Riley as well).
* If you want to delve a bit further into the Tigers or that whole plotline, that would be fun too.
