Dear Crosscrafter

Dear Crosscrafter,

Thank you so much for writing for me! I'm very excited to see what you come up with.

I've included some specific prompt ideas, but please don't feel compelled to use them if they don't speak to you. They're just starting points in case you need inspiration. Similarly, lists of favourite characters can be freely ignored if someone else works better for your story.

I'm [archiveofourown.org profile] skieswideopen on AO3 as well.

General Likes: Competence, integrity, secrets coming out (by choice, chance or necessity), equal partnerships in romantic relationships, outsider POVs, introspection, mentoring, brief moments of emotional vulnerability from generally stoic characters, learning something new about a character, and stories that pick up dropped plot threads. Some favourite tropes include time loops, forced proximity, truth serum/in vino veritas/lie detectors, undercover as a couple, and road trips.

DNWs: Explicit gore, amputations of body parts, AUs that significantly alter the premise, setting, or character roles (e.g., coffee shop AUs, high school AUs, hospital AUs, A/B/O, genderswap), romantic or sexual relationships featuring a significant power imbalance, infidelity not present in canon.

Other Things: I'm very flexible on genre: plot-driven, character-driven, action, introspection, slice of life, gen, romance...it's all good. I have squicks but no triggers. I'm fine with character death, including main characters, unless otherwise noted. Background non-con is fine if it's helpful for the story, but I'd rather it not be the primary focus. I dislike plots that revolve around misunderstandings that could be cleared up with a simple conversation, and competent characters being rendered temporarily incompetent for the purpose of driving the plot. Also, for this particular exchange, I'm flexible on cross-fandom pairings, but I'd prefer to avoid non-canonical infidelity.

A note on crossovers: The things I love most in crossovers are (1) both sides getting a chance to shine; (2) seeing how one set of characters perceives the others (which plays off my love of outsider POVs); (3) seeing characters' to learning a different group's secrets; (4) watching characters from different fandoms interact; and (5) seeing characters' reactions to new tech, new societies, and new ideas. Any one of those things will make me happy, regardless of following any specific prompts.

Request 1: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Firefly, Star Trek: Discovery, Stargate Atlantis

First up, space shows! These shows are all set in different universes, and I'm happy to hand-wave how the characters meet. Maybe an accident with a wormhole/stargate/warp drive malfunction/space-time anomaly/experiment-gone-wrong leaves a ship stranded in the wrong universe. Maybe ships from two different realities get sucked into a third place by unknown forces and the crews have to work together to get home. Maybe just one or two people end up alone in the wrong universe and have to figure how what to do next, whether that's return home or build a new life.

Prompts:
* The crew of Serenity encounter a space anomaly while fleeing a desperate fight, and find themselves at Federation HQ with no idea of how to get home. (I'm happy just to read about the fish-out-of-water experience of the crew encountering Federation technology, or Mal trying to figure out what the catch is for the help they receive, or Kaylee hanging out with Tilly and Stamets, swapping stories and admiring Discovery's engine room, or Inara and Zoë discussing their take on the Federation people they've met.)
* When a puddlejumper emerges in the middle of the Colonial fleet, members of the fleet realize that Earth may be more than a myth. (Lee/John, Kara/John, Kara/Ronon are all welcome as possible ships.)
* Vance, Rillak, Roslin and Adama meet to discuss next steps after the Colonial fleet appears on the Federation's doorstep.

Note: I had to choose between SG1 and SGA because I didn't want to receive a crossover just between those two shows, but I'm a fan of both, so feel free to sub one for the other or bring in characters from both. The same applies to the various live action Star Treks. Feel free to sub in a different nominated Star Trek if you prefer. Also, feel free to repurpose any prompts for different fandoms, or ignore them altogether.

Favourite characters:
BSG: Lee Adama, Laura Roslin, Bill Adama, Sharon Agathon, Karl Agathon, Kara Thrace, Romo Lampkin, Anastasia Dualla
EFC: Liam Kincaid, Lil Marquette, Marcus 'Augur' Deveraux, Da'an
Firefly: Zoë Washburne, Kaylee Frye, Inara Serra, Mal Reynolds, Shepherd Book
SG1: Sam Carter, Cameron Mitchell, Vala Mal Doran, Teal'c, Daniel Jackson, Jack O'Neill; favourite ships are Sam Carter/Cameron Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard, Sam/Cam/John and Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran
SGA: John Sheppard, Elizabeth Weir, Teyla Emmagan, Ronon Dex, Rodney McKay; favourite ships are Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard, John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir
Disco: Charles Vance, Michael Burnham, Saru, Sylvia Tilly, Jett Reno, Hugh Culber, Paul Stamets, T'Rina

Request 2: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Firefly, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Stargate Atlantis

This is a repeat of my previous request, with different Star Trek swapped in.

Space shows redux! These shows are all set in different universes, and I'm happy to hand-wave how the characters meet. SNW: Una Chin-Riley (Number One), Christopher Pike, Spock, La'an Nonnien-Singh

Request 3: Battle Creek, Being Human (US/Canada), Elementary, Forever, Intelligence (US), The Listener, The Mentalist, Stargate: SG1, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

This request is largely defined by shows that feature people with secrets to hide and shows that feature people who are good at ferreting out secrets. Sometimes they're the same people.

I'd enjoy anything that throws characters from these shows together, particularly if it leads the secret-finder to look into the secret-keeper. Casefic with two teams racing to solve a series of crimes, each convinced they know what's really going on? Casefic where they have to at least pretend to cooperate? Someone is a witness to a crime, leading the secret-finder to become interested in the secret-keeper? Someone gets seconded to a different team for a specific case? A random encounter at a coffee shop/bank/supermarket somehow piques the secret-finder's interest? A blind date or old cross-team friendship leads to an encounter? Someone gets sucked into a case while on vacation? (Given the 1000 word minimum, I'm not expecting a complete case. Scenes from a case is fine.)

I realize Star Trek is a bit of an odd man out here. In keeping with the theme, I was picturing time travel, with a couple of Starfleet officers hiding on past Earth, trying to avoid attracting attention while carrying out whatever their mission is, and then either getting swept up into a criminal investigation or finding themselves intervening to help someone or perhaps unexpectedly receiving help themselves. However, if you want to have someone from the present day somehow end up in the future, wondering at what they find and worrying about how to get home (or how to build a new life), that will work too. I'm prepared for some hand-waving on how they get there: mysterious portals, experiments gone wrong, Ancient intervention, etc., etc.

Prompts:
* Their teams swear that Sherlock and Jane are competing to see who can be the most insightful/irritating.
* Jane tries to figure out what's going on with Gabriel when Cyber Command agrees to help the FBI with a case.
* Sherlock figured out the Stargate project years ago, but Joan, Marcus and/or Gregson knew nothing about it and can't figure out why the Air Force is taking over their (admittedly weird) case.
* Jane has his own theories on why Milt is in Battle Creek.
* Joan and Milt are old friends.
* Henry Morgan or Aidan Waite witness a crime, and as part of the investigation, Gabriel Vaughn runs a standard background check.
* Sherlock doesn't believe in psychics, so he's determined to figure out how Toby Logan does what he does.
* Henry Morgan and Aidan Waite recognize each other from an encounter a century earlier
* Characters from any two shows team up to deal with an emergency/catastrophe: The Ori/Goa'uld invade earth? Preventing an apocalypse? Surviving in a post-apocalyptic world?

Feel free to play with the timelines to get seasons to match up the way you need them to--I'm not picky about that.

Battle Creek: Milt Chamberlain, Russ Agnew, Kim Guziewicz, Holly Dale; I like Russ/Holly and don't feel strongly about Milt/Russ, so feel free to ship Milt (or Guz!) with someone you think suits them.
BHUS: Aidan Waite, Kat Neely, Nora Sergeant, Josh Levison, Sally Malik, Henry; favourite ships are Aidan/Kat and Josh/Nora, but I'm happy to see other ships explored for Aidan and Sally
Elementary: Sherlock Holmes, Joan Watson, Tommy Gregson, Marcus Bell
Forever: Henry Morgan
Intelligence: Gabriel Vaughn, Riley Neal, Lilian Strand, Shenendoah Cassidy, Chris Jameson
The Listener: Toby Logan, Michelle McCluskey, Alvin Klein, Charlie Marks
The Mentalist: Patrick Jane, Teresa Lisbon, Kimball Cho
SG1: Sam Carter, Cameron Mitchell, Vala Mal Doran, Teal'c, Daniel Jackson, Jack O'Neill; favourite ships are Sam Carter/Cameron Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard, Sam/Cam/John and Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran
SGA: John Sheppard, Elizabeth Weir, Teyla Emmagan, Ronon Dex, Rodney McKay, Radek Zelenka, Kate Heightmeyer; favourite ships are Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard, John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir
SNW: Una Chin-Riley (Number One), Christopher Pike, Spock, La'an Nonnien-Singh

Request 4: Covert Affairs, Intelligence, James Bond, Person of Interest, Stargate: SG1

This set is all about secrets and spies! I'd enjoy anything that brings the different characters together, working together while perhaps hiding various secrets, or trying to figure out someone else's other secrets.

Prompts:
* Any of Annie Walker, Auggie Anderson, Eyal Lavin and/or James Bond are read into the Stargate program and asked to identify a mole from their country.
* Eyal introduces Annie to Bond when the three of them encounter each other in the field, leading to some subtle competition for Annie's attention.
* Annie and Auggie are assigned to work with Gabriel and Riley on a case.
* Old friends Joan and Lilian have a drink and commiserate over the challenges of their jobs and agents who don't always do what they're told.
* Annie crosses paths with Reese and Shaw when the Machine sends them on an assignment that's also of interest to the CIA.
* The Machine sends Reese and Shaw on assignment that turns out to involve aliens and, oddly enough, the Air Force.
* Two characters meet while being held prisoner after trying to infiltrate the same group.

Favourite characters:
Covert Affairs: Annie Walker, Auggie Anderson, Joan Campbell, Eyal Lavin; my favourite pairing is Annie/Eyal, but I enjoy Annie/Auggie too
Intelligence: Gabriel Vaughn, Riley Neal, Lilian Strand, Shenendoah Cassidy, Chris Jameson
James Bond: James Bond, M
Person of Interest: John Reese, Sameen Shaw, Harold Finch, Joss Carter
SG1: Sam Carter, Cameron Mitchell, Vala Mal Doran, Teal'c, Daniel Jackson, Jack O'Neill; favourite ships are Sam Carter/Cameron Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell/John Sheppard, Sam/Cam/John and Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran

Note: I had to choose between SG1 and SGA because I didn't want to receive a crossover just between those two shows, but I'm a fan of both, so feel free to bring in characters from both. Also, feel free to repurpose any prompts for different fandoms, or ignore them altogether.

Request 5: Battlestar Galactica (2003), Intelligence, Madam Secretary

For BSG and Madam Secretary or Intelligence: The Colonial fleet finds Earth! Take your pick of which angle to explore.

Prompts:
* Secretary (or President!) Elizabeth McCord discusses the implications of the arrival with her husband.
* Elizabeth and Conrad discuss what they're going to do with the refugees--and the new technology.
* Elizabeth and Roslin meet.
* Roslin and Adama discuss their initial reception and their hopes for the future.
* Elizabeth's and Laura's staff coordinate upcoming events.
* A member of Elizabeth's staff gives a tour to a few Colonial representatives.
* Elizabeth and other Earth reps get a tour of Galactica.
* Lee Adama has experience explaining his father to presidents, which helps during an informal chat with Elizabeth McCord.
* Gabriel and Riley are assigned to provide security during the early meetings between the US president and the president of the colonies.
* Gabriel is sent along on a tour of Galactica with an eye to using the chip to scan their systems. Instead, he picks up some Cylons.
* Three months after the Colonial fleet appeared above Earth, Riley and Dee are bonding.

For Madam Secretary and Intelligence, I'm primarily interested in seeing Elizabeth find out about Clockwork, and her reaction to it.

Prompts:
* Gabriel and Riley accompany Elizabeth on an overseas trip, and something goes terribly wrong, leading to an accidental revelation of Gabriel's abilities.
* President Dalton tells Elizabeth about the whole thing and asks her opinion on whether the program should be expanded.
* Elizabeth gets a briefing on Clockwork after she becomes president and decides she wants to meet the man whom they've entrusted with so much power.
* Elizabeth talks the program over with Henry, or discusses hypotheticals with her staff, trying to decide what to do with it.
* Henry, as ethics advisor, talks to Gabriel (and maybe Lilian and Riley as well).
* If you want to delve a bit further into the Tigers or that whole plotline, that would be fun too.

Request 6: Being Human (US), Sleepy Hollow

This is a bit of a wild card request. Aidan Waite and Ichabod Crane are both products of the 18th century now living in contemporary America, and I'd love to see a story where they meet in the present day.

Maybe the knew each from the war? Or maybe they struck up a correspondence when Ichabod Crane wrote to Edmund Waite in search of a rare book and Aidan answered the letter? However they met, what happens when they run into each other in the present day?

Or maybe Crane and Abbie are somehow directed to Aidan--and his knowledge of the supernatural--for help?

I tend to prefer the first season of Sleepy Hollow, but feel free to write whatever makes sense. And feel free to ignore or otherwise alter the ending of BHUS season 4 if you want to set this post-series.
