From what I see of the set-up from the end of series one, the North American version has to be substantially different. I don't know if you'll enjoy the NA version as much as the UK version--I think it depends on exactly what appealed to you, and on how much you can resist making comparisons (as I obviously couldn't)--but I'm fairly sure you're right that you won't hate season 2 of the NA version for the same reasons simply because I very much doubt there are many similarities at all in terms of what happens. Of course, that doesn't mean there won't be other things you dislike.
I am fascinated now, however, by the cultural tropes in play that led to what you dislike. Or rather by which cultural tropes are in play, and how they differ from yours/mine/ours.
